Oooh. My aching sides. *cough* *cough*
Aside from the awful cold, I'm now coughing - very, very painfully. Drat. While I'm waiting for the work I have to do (I'm a proofreader, therefore I must wait for my layout artist to finish his stuff before I can start), I'm reading the Snarry fics over at the SSFF archive. I'm too sick to do anything else.
I got lucky. Found this truly adorable Snarry fluffy preslash fic. As always, my reviews tend to be kilometric so just click on the lj cut thingy link down there and read on...
A Nick in Time by Tira Nog
In a word - this fic is adorable. There have been stories where Harry and Snape have been transformed into young kids - most of them are over at ff.net and aside from the occasional joke, are often fairly OOC and suffer from the usual bad grammar and shite.
Tira takes this particular fanfic cliche and turns it into a sweet, touching and very well-written fic. Eight years after the war, Severus Snape finds himself still the same lonely grouchy bastard he's always been, quietly missing Albus Dumbledore, who's implied to have died in the war.
His former students are now fellow professors - Harry, Neville and a married Ron and Hermione. And while it looks like Harry wants to be friendly, Snape is still too prickly to let anyone close - pretty much the usual for Snape. He has no idea how to go around doing the "friendly" thing anyways.
However, unforeseen circumstances change Harry and Snape back to their child selves (Harry is 7 while Snape is about a year or so older) and they don't remember anything about their adult lives. What follows next is an entertaining read that leaves you wanting more. Kid!Harry is just plain heartwrenchingly adorable - you just want to hug him and make it all better. Kid!Snape is even better - you'll giggle helplessly at his adult ways and manner of speaking. Yep, he's still his snarky, dignified self but this time, you can see that it's all very much a desperate facade that you also want to hug him and make it all better.
