darth_stitchThis is most likely my month for sickness. I blame the weather, personally - stormy one day, hot as blazes the next. Had got the sore eyes for the past week - a highly contagious and annoying disease where m'eyes are bloodshot, itchy (and of course, sore). Had to rest them which means, I can't read for very long or use the computer. Also means I had an impromptu vacation from work. I've only begun to recover from it now and I'm going stir-crazy from the lack of useful activity.
Non-sequitur: our newest kitten Siu Mai has discovered a way to perch on me whilst I type on the computer. Great. I have a kitten with *wince* widdle claws kneeding m'legs....
Anyways, on to the recs.

Everyone's favorite Sith Lord, Darth Vader, writes an open letter to the galaxy. Hilarious stuff. BTW, if the link doesn't work when you click it, I suggest copying and pasting it. Should do the trick.
Now here's an Harry Potter Rec - I can NOT believe I haven't praised and dragged people to read this yet but here goes:
Aspenlight's WIP A Year Like None Other is a wonderful read. It's got elements of what I'd love to see in real canon. I love the way she develops Harry from Book 5, how she develops the relationship between him and Snape, how Draco "defects" over to the good guys and she's even made me like Dudley. A lot of the stuff here "feels" like real canon and there are moments when I forget this is actually just a fan fic.
Personally, the Harry-Snape relationship here is something I would LOVE to see in the actual series. It's not slash although there was, until recently, a teensy bit of room for subtext. Now there isn't any but I love the way their friendship has been developed.
Snape's not warm or fuzzy but I love the way how he slowly gets to know the real Harry and comes to care for him on his own merits, without a slashy, Lolita-esque subtext. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy the Snarry slash but I've just had to cringe at the VAST number of truly BAD Snarry slash fics where Snape develops this attraction for sixteen year old Harry out of the blue and jumps the kid's bones.
And I love the way Harry's reacting here - he's had so many potential father-figures ripped away or betraying him that he doesn't know how to take that kind of attention when it's offered to him.
