I really should be working....

*evil grin*

Name your ten favorite fictional characters of all time and what book, movie, or tv show they came from.

1. Severus Snape, from the Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling -Potions genius, lovely voice, Death Eater on a redemption trip? My man!

2. Harry Potter, the title hero of the Harry Potter Series, by JK Rowling - He's what Luke Skywalker should have been in the Expanded Universe. A hero with a touch of darkness to him, an essentially good kid with just that bit of mischief that saves him from being a Polyanna saint. One of the most interesting heroic figures ever written.

3. Nicholas Knight, vampire detective, from the Forever Knight TV Series - God, I miss him - angst, snarkiness, mischief, gorgeousness and all. Last Knight NEVER happened, ya hear me?!!

4. Methos, from the Highlander TV series - Death a.k.a. The Fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, the Oldest Immortal of All, the Snarky R.O.G., lovely voice and perhaps on his own redemption quest? Ah, Methos, you really should get several books to your name...

5. Himura Kenshin a.k.a. Himura Battousai, from the anime Rurouni Kenshin - Former Ishin assassin, greatest swordsman of his time, finding redemption in a vow to use his sword to protect and to never kill again...and he's a cute redhead to boot.

6. Aragorn, Ranger of the North, King of Gondor - from J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings - This is what King Arthur should have been. I loved him the same moment I realized, along with Frodo, that this scruffy Ranger was not all that he seemed, hiding "his true worth" from unfriendly eyes. God bless Viggo Mortensen for bringing him to life so beautifully.

7. Erik, the Phantom of the Opera, the way he was written in Susan Kay's Phantom - Tortured genius, beautiful voice, sings and plays like an angel, love always out of his reach, finding redemption in one final kiss...may you find joy with your Christine in a better life than this.

8. Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Star Wars trilogy (Original) - as disappointed as I am with the prequels, I still have a soft spot for the Dark Lord of the Sith. When I first saw the Original Trilogy (not knowing Certain Things), I was prepared to dismiss him as another bad guy; his revelation to Luke in Empire Strikes Back blew me away and upended my world view forever more.

9. Connor Macleod, immortal - from the first Highlander movie - I have a soft spot for him and I REFUSE to acknowledge Endgame ever happened. YA HEAR ME? IT NEVER HAPPENED!

Because I wanted to add three more, okay?

10. Dracula from Bram Stoker's Dracula (the book, not the movie) - Dracula, whatever his incarnation (villain, demon, lover, monster, tormented soul in search of redemption, major bad ass), will always fascinate me.

Elric of Melnibone / Von Bek from Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion Series - still want to see more of these stories, someday soon.

His Darkness, Dream of the Endless, The Sandman from Neil Gaiman's Sandman Graphic Novels - There's always a place for the Prince of Stories in my head. Always.

Name five fictional characters that you would like to have an affair with and/or marry, plus the source. You may disregard any pre-existing attachments for these characters.

1. Harry Potter, the Harry Potter series - when he grows up. *snicker*

2. Remus Lupin, the Harry Potter series - adore him, I do...as much as I love Severus, I'd kill him in 24 hours so that's a lost cause....

3. Aragorn, Lord of the Rings - What? You mean I'm NOT Arwen?

4. Legolas, Lord of the Rings - Please. Blame Orlando Bloom. *facepalms* Me and TEN ZILLION other people....

5. Himura Kenshin, Rurouni Kenshin - And he can cook too, neh?

and

Colonel Christopher Brandon, Sense and Sensibility - Blame Alan Rickman. And Kate Winslet's character is an idiot, okay?

Name five books/literary works that you would like to live in.

1. The Potterverse (Harry Potter's world, of course)
2. The Last Unicorn
3. J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings - Middle-earth RULES!
4. Mercedes Lackey's Oathbreakers series - long live Tarma and Kethry!
5. Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels - dangerous territory, but still, I'll take the risk.

What classic/critically acclaimed work(s) of literature do you fully appreciate the artistic merits of but hate nonetheless?

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - I agree with [livejournal.com profile] hp_femme - didn't get more than a few pages before I zonked out. Had to wait for the umpteen adaptations and groaned at the melodrama of it all!

2. War and Peace, Tolstoy - snoozed again. My apologies.

3 - 4. Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen. I normally READ the book and THEN watch the movie. In this case, I prefer the movie. (sigh) I KNOW they are classic romances. Still, I just can't get the hang of them as written words and damnnit, I ain't a bookworm for nothing, y'know?

5. Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare - The language is beautiful, no doubt about it, Will is a DAMN GOOD poet. But the stupid tragedy and the hysterical teenagers drive me INSANE!! Give me any other Shakespeare play other than this! The only time I appreciated it was when I watched Shakespeare in Love.

Name five books that you would recommend I read.

Other than Lord of the Rings and the Potter books? Heh.

1. Phantom, by Susan Kay - absofrickinlutely THE BEST DAMN adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera story that I have ever seen. Ever. Beautiful. Perfect.

2. The Black Swan, by Mercedes Lackey - gorgeous retelling of Swan Lake. Kick-ass and lovely.

3. The Last Unicorn, by Peter Beagle - one of the most beautiful, heartbreaking and heartwrenching fantasy worlds I've ever gotten lost in.

4. Salem's Lot, by Stephen King - Nightmarish. Frightening. Read alone in your room in the middle of the night with nothing but your stuffed toys for company. You'll never sleep the same way again.

5. anything by Neil Gaiman - all his works are good. I love the Sandman graphic novels the best.
