AIEEEE!!!!! Harry/Ginny Het!!!!!

No, I'm not wandering off my personal OTP. (I LOVE the Snarry, damnnit!)

somniesperus) in disguise all along (hah! I knew it!), I KNOW that the Snarry will never happen in canon. We can subtext away but actual Snarriness? Nuh-uh. No way in hell.
And of course there's that pesky Perseus Evans (Severus Snape is an amalgam of Perseus Evans) theory, where Snape may be related to Lily somehow and is therefore Harry's long-lost uncle or something of the sort, which will eventually lead them to a happyhappy father-son platonic relationship. Which will please the Severitus challenge fans (the ones who love the Snape-as-Harry's-father stories) to no end.
This is strange but I started with the Severitus challenge stories before I even THOUGHT about tackling any sort of HP slash. One of the VERY few FF.net gems, A Father's Sin by Severitus IS a damn good read. It takes on a ballsy premise, sticks to it, and weaves an enthralling, heartstopping tale. Every other "Snape-as-Harry's-father" story (with some very very FEW exceptions) is the palest of pale shadows to this fic. It also has other ideas that would ordinarily make me run screaming but Severitus grabs your attention and keeps it. It's still (alas!) a WIP but I'll actually stick around to see it end, never mind that I have long since gone on to the slash side of the Severus-Harry relationship.
Oddly enough, I find I'm not alone in this. I've noticed several authors in ff.net listing Snarry slash AND Severitus' fic, plus the few decent answers to her challenge in their favorite stories' list. Weird.
Anyways, on to my other rec.
With Ginny finally coming into her own in OotP, I don't mind seeing her as Harry's eventual canon love interest. (sigh) It's almost an unwritten rule - Our Hero Must End Up With A Suitably Feisty and Smart Love Interest in a Happy Het Relationship And Live Happily Ever After With A Dozen Redheaded and Green-Eyed Kids.
Personally, I hope JKR keeps Harry's romantic future ambiguous, the way Lucas let it happen with Luke Skywalker. The Ginny shippers can read the Ginny subtext and write happily away on their fics, the Snarry shippers will do the same and so will the Harry/Draco faction, and there's also the heretical (to some-heheh) Harry/Hermione shippers who'll do their own thing etc. etc. and everyone's happy.
Anyways, don't let the title put you off Anya's Naked Quidditch Match is a priceless, PRICELESS comic masterpiece. The premise: The Weasley twins, now captains of the Gryffindor Team (this was written pre-OotP), lose a bet to the Slytherins. Now they have to play Quidditch...nekkid. Wackiness ensues.
Written as a series of M-mails (the Wizarding World's answer to e-mail), it's fucking hilarious. Don't drink or eat anything while reading this fic, lest you spew it all over the keyboard or the monitor. Harry is captured perfectly here - teenage angst (oh gods, the horrors of going starkers in front of the entire school), sheer bad-ass Slytherin-esque cunning and mischief (look out, Voldemort), Gryffindor guts and all. Ginny is a perfect foil to him - if you were EVER annoyed at her before in other fics, you'll love her in this one - she's almost scary at times! Poor Harry!
Snape, alas, is not too much in the spotlight here but his appearance is still good for a fond chuckle or two...
So here, for the non-slash Harry fans, two good non-slash Harry fics. And even if you are a slasher, give these a try if you haven't seen them both recced to death on other sites. Hehheh.
