Daddy was buried Tuesday morning and we still miss him like blazes. I keep expecting to come home and see him sprawled out on the sofa, watching the news, with Siopao the cat nestled up beside him. He and Dad had lots and lots of interesting conversations during the day.
To everyone who's expressed their condolences, sympahties, prayers, hugs and all, thanks very much. It helps and it's still helping.
God, I miss my Daddy Alien.
We're having the nine days of prayers for the repose of the dead (Filipino-Catholic thing, I'd say) and to my amusement, Siopao decided to join us, meowing "Amens." Dad would have liked that. Heh.
Grandma Alien is, as to be expected, incosolable and so is Grandpa Alien. They've depended on Daddy so much (him being the firstborn son and utterly reliable) and now they both feel quite lost without him. Like I told Grandma Alien, we can't replace Daddy Alien, but we can do our best to do what we can in his place. And to a mother and father, there's nothing to make up for the loss of a child, especially when you're not expecting to bury that child.
My uncles (Dad's younger brothers) read my last LJ entry and I was startled to note that it helped them both. I didn't really want them to read it and I really wanted them to see the condolences, especially
aliciamasters's lovely quote from The Little Prince, which I'd like to convince Mommy Duck to put on Dad's tombstone. But I guess they really liked it and made them and my cousins add more good memories of Daddy Alien and his general cheerful goofiness. Like Dad's booming, "The next number of the program....?" during family gatherings, which means he's wondering when we're going home or "let's start opening the Christmas presents." Or Dad's little jokes with the little cousins.
Little Stitch Jr., in fact, was the one who comforted me as I wept when we laid Daddy to rest at last. Dad delighted in her too, because she's pudgy like me. Hee. :P
I'm sick today (WARGH) with a cold, as usual. I suppose the multivitamins have helped prevent it from being one of my usual Godawful Colds from Hell. Mommy Alien rushed about fixing the last of the hospital bills (which are HIDEOUSLY astronomical) and The Eggling is feeling poorly too.
We definitely NEED that rest.
On the fandom side, I'm going to avoid my f-list for a bit. With all the expenses we've had and are still going to have, I think I'll be one of the last people on planet Earth to read HBP (hardcover here costs P1,500 or slightly less than that and that's HEAVY on my pocket right now). So I want to avoid spoiling myself. Sorry, guys.
Anyway. the Wacky Fluffverse is already fast tumbling into AU country - hehe, as if it weren't AU to begin with. Come on, would JK Rowling write Snarry in CANON? Or any other slash pairing for that matter? *waits for the howls of outrage from the Closeminded Conservative Portion of the World's Population Who are Sekritly Convinced that the Potter books are Tools of EEBIL Witchcraft* Yep. Didn't think so either.
Anyway, I'll probably use parts of new canon if it fits the fluffverse. And for the record, if Snape IS the Half Blood Prince, I'm going to laugh my furry blue arse off.
Daddy could never understand my fandom fascinations but he definitely found a lot of fodder to tease me with. In fact, the last movie we watched together was the Extended Edition of Return of the King. He had a lot more fun watching me swoon over Legolas and Aragorn than he did watching the movie itself. Heh. That's my Daddy.

Heh, your dad got his fun out of fandom then, even as you got yours. It all works out. :D

Date: 2005-07-15 05:21 pm (UTC)I'll be thinking of you in amongst the madness of Harry Potter weekend. I always buy extra copies, so if I can send you one once I've read it, send my your address (or P.O. Box) at surfersmyheroATcomcastDOTnet. We have five adults in this house who all want to read it immediately, and I'm getting 50% off, anyway. I'd love to send it your way.

Date: 2005-07-18 02:30 am (UTC)I'm sorry your grandparents had to go through this - I've lost an aunt myself and have seen how it affected my grandmother - and that you're feeling poorly. I hope you and your brother get well soon, and that the bills and stuff get put in order so you don't have to worry about those things anymore.
