Daddy

Dad's initial doctor - the surgeon - gives it to us straight. The situation is very bleak. It is a severe and chronic infection that has affected my Dad's blood and is causing multiple organ failure. The doctor says it will take a miracle and prayers now.

I wanted to scream.

I grimly hold on to my Mom, stopping my sobs of anger and grief. There are tears in my eyes and I want to cry myself out but I have to hold on to my Mom. She needs me so very badly.

I am here at home, just to get some water. We are given some shred of hope. Dad is improving somewhat. He will be getting a new set of antibiotics. We have 48 hours. If he does not get any better....

Oh God.

They stuck him up to a respirator now to help him breathe. I kissed him. i told him I loved him.

I told him I want to see him give me away at my wedding.

I am home for a brief while - I have to get water and coffee for Mom and myself. We will be keeping vigil.

I told Daddy that he has to fight. He can fight. He can make it through this. He said, or more precisely, signaled, yes. Daddy will fight. And God willing, Daddy will win.

Lord, my Dad is in Your Hands, now. If it is indeed Your Will, send him home to us, well and whole again.

I love you, Daddy.

Do not go gently into that good night.

An infection?!?! How heinous that they can't just clear it up, and heal him, and send him home. Our miracle medicine can change our sex, staple our stomach, give us someone else's organs, but can't keep our bodies from rebelling.
