Snarry rec!
Aug. 11th, 2003 07:12 pmOh, a reccing we will go…
Sigh. I think I’ve read just about every good Snarry fic there is. *grin* Guess, I’ll have to wait for the WIPs to update. Or for new fics from my favorite Snarry authors (hint!hint!).
Oh yeah, on occasion, you can hit FF.net and after sorting through complete and utter crap, you can, on occasion, find something worth reading. DragonLight’s “The Paradox of Existence” is one of them.
Her premise: Harry goes back in time and meets a young Severus Snape. Now there’s a whole lot of badfics with this kind of premise. *rolls eyes* However, DragonLight takes this idea for the wild and wonderful ride it should be. And damn, is it good!
The Paradox of Existence sets us up with a grown-up Harry who’s in the middle of a very tempestuous (yet loving) relationship with Severus Snape. Harry’s a kick-ass Auror and he’s also taught Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts, the first teacher to end the infamous DADA “curse.” The war with Voldemort is still ongoing, with Harry as one of the major players against him. As the fic was begun before OotP and is now (thankfully!) finished, it’s now seriously AU. The Potterverse supporting cast are all alive and well (yes, our favorite Dog is alive!) and DragonLight does a fantabulous job with them.
Without giving too much away, Dumbledore sends Harry back into the past, during the Marauders’ era. While Harry’s forbidden to do anything major to change the past, he is there to prevent Voldemort from doing certain things that will affect the present we all know. Assuming the name of “Octavian Tyler,” Harry teaches (yet again!) Defense Against the Dark Arts to, among others, Lucius Malfoy, Severus Snape and yep, our favorite Marauders. And 16-year-old Severus very quickly develops a major crush on his mysterious DADA Professor.
*snerk*
I shall say no more about the rest. Suffice it to say that there’s plenty of snark, angst and humor – especially from Draco Malfoy. Draco seems to enjoy a better fate in fandom – once again, he’s redeemed here and well, the Draco/Harry dynamic in DragonLight’s story (no, the boys are not slashed here, it’s Snarry all the way) is worth ROFLMAO. There’s a whole lot of backstory in DragonLight’s Paradox universe and the glimpses we get are fascinating and speak of side stories and other stuff to come.
Run and check it out at her website: http://www.geocities.com/sumiataka
If y’all are interested, I shall be posting later chapters of my insane SW/Sandman crossover pretty soon…..
