This was supposed to be A Good Day.

I had just squeed and DIED of happiness over Snapetoy and 'Delta's latest [livejournal.com profile] restituere backstory wherein 'Toy's Severus wanted a wee one of his own with 'Delta's Harry.

I was wearing that big stupid grin the whole day as I bustled about for work.

Now, SOMEONE or SOMETHING may have misplaced a diskette containing the latest data of my VERY IMPORTANT OFFICIAL LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG REPORT.

Which has NO BACKUPS.

I was supposed to create the BACKUP FILES TODAY.

And now, a whole weekend's worth of work is GONE.

I can only surmise that someone sat at my workstation today and may have misplaced or inadvertently stored away my very precious diskette.

I can only hope that my diskette is not lost. Or else I have to REPEAT ALL THAT WORK.

AAAAAAAAAAAUGGGGGH!!!!!

*cries*

ETA: (August 18, 2004) IT IS FOUND IT IS FOUND IT IS FOUND!!!!!

*dances for joy*

My silly officemate was hunting around for disks, saw my about-to-be labelled one on my workstation, thought it was blank and got it. When she heard that I was bewailing the loss of my disk, she promptly handed it back to Madame Secretary to give to me. And yes, it WAS my disk. With the data untouched and unscathed. YAAAAAAY!!!!!!

I IS SAVED!!!

:( I'm sorry.
*checks and double-checks under the bed for any lost disks*

I've had the children searching all day, but they haven't found anything. Waverly, are you sure Horace doesn't eat disks?
*Waverly nods*

Sorry, Auntie Stitch. Research project still unaccounted for. I chalk it up to an evil plot by former Death Eaters.

*hugs Auntie Alicia and Waverly*

It is found and I am happy again. And Horace is a smart snake - he'd BETTER not mess with my stuff. :P

BTW...um, Waverly? What do you think of having a new little sister?

*Waverly shakes finger at Auntie Stitch*

Aunt Alicia says:
You have to finish "As You Wish" before you can add a new little sister. If you want to, you can sneak her in the epilogue! Wouldn't that be a nice way to have a new baby?

Waverly says:
I wouldn't be surprised, as much as Daddy and Papa have been kissing lately. My friend Orelia says that you get pregnant by kissing really hard. My friend Sam says if someone spits in your glass, and you drink it, you get pregnant. Did Papa spit in Daddy's glass again?

*Aunt Alicia is rolling on the floor, laughing*

Harry, what kind of potions have you been drinking from your husband lately? Aunt Alicia

*blush*

Er.

Um.

*tugs at necktie nervously*

I think I drank that Fertility Potion Severus was brewing for Ginny. I thought it was pumpkin juice!

And I fainted in class today.

This is NOT good.

*sweatdrops*

Glad you found your disk (this is Jay)

Of course not. I think it's the timezones - I keep seeing your comments a long time AFTER I've moved on to a new entry. Eeek. Drat them timezones.

*hugs*

Label your disks! Augh! I'm so glad your officemate found the missing one, you're lucky she didn't overwrite your stuff.

Are your office computers very old? Do they have USB ports? If so, you might consider getting a USB flash memory (also called a 'key drive' or 'thumb drive') to hang 'round your neck and backup your work. Saves on them ulcers. ^_^

Yes, I know. Label my disks. *sweatdrop*

Although it was a tad annoying to put something on MY workstation and NOWHERE else and have it snitched off. There's an office supply cabinet. Has lots of diskettes. Sigh. Co-workers! Oy!

Like I said, a thumb drive would be a plus. Amazon.com has got 'em for cheap, and your local PC store probably has them too. You can get a 256 MB San Disk flash memory key for about $45 USD from Amazon. I use mine to shlep work back and forth from home and for 'emergency backup'.

And yeah, snitching it off your desk is a bit much! Geesh. At least she found it & returned it. Phew.

Dude, when One US Dollar is equivalent to 56 Philippine pesos, $45 is a wee bit off me budget. OWIE.

I know my 'puter has a port for that thinguminy you mentioned, I just don't know how much it costs here.
But given the Peso-Dollar Exchange Rate, I have the distinct feeling that this will be painful.

In any case, yes, I have now LABELED my diskette properly. And I was exercising ALL my patience with said co-worker because honestly...*rueful laugh*

1 to 56??? YOWWIE!! What happened to the exchange rate?? When I lived there it was 1 to 4. Of course, that was back in the 60's but still. Eep.

Check your local mall's tech-shop and see if there are any made in your neck of the woods that are more reasonable in price. Heck, most of these devices are made in China, etc. Yup, mine says "Made in China" in eensy print on the side. Let me know if you can find them locally - and if they're remotely affordable.

$10 is 560 Pesos?? <_<

After Marcos, the exchange rate shot straight to hell sans the handbasket. Sigh.

And yep, $10 would probably see me through three days for food and commuting. :D Hee.
