Gacked this from
wikdsushi.
I modified this a bit for my fellow Pinoy 80s kids. You guys know who you are. Hehe.
1. You've ever ended a sentence with the word "PSYCHE." I discovered the wonders of "dude," "totally," and other 80s expressions when I finally saw Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. In high school. Which was the 90s. Ooops. Was I late on the trends or what?
2. You can sing the rap to the "Fresh Prince of Bel Air." No, but I did remember that Will Smith fella was a funny guy. Who knew he'd make such a comeback in ID4 and Men in Black?
3. You wore bike shorts under your skirts and felt stylish. Nope. We wore them bike shorts and other variations under our school skirts to preserve our modesty. We felt free to climb trees, hang upside down on the playground bars, go down the slides (whee!)sprawl on the stairs and sit with our knees apart (gasp! so unladylike!). Heh.
4. You yearned to be a member of the Baby-sitters club and tried to start a club of your own. It was Sweet Valley all the way. Twins, High School, hell, even college. The books were carried round by the "cool girls" when I was around third or fourth grade. Then, they graduated to Sweet Dreams - those cute little teenage romance books. Just so I wasn't totally out of the loop, I read some of the books, borrowing them from the nice cool girls. Was annoyed at Jessica, wanted to twhap goody two shoes Elizabeth. Loved one cute Sweet Dreams romance where the nerdy girl got the cute guy (of course!). While they read that, I was reading Sherlock Holmes and discovered the secret delights of historical novels, Barbara Cartland and Mills & Boon. *chortle*
5. You owned those lil Strawberry Shortcake pals scented dolls. Had a cute Rose Petal doll. She smelled sweet. Made her Barbie's oldest child. What? I had Barbies and one Wedding Ken doll. Now, thinking of Ken's pink tie, I should've guessed the man-doll was gay.
6. You know the Voltes V theme song and screamed in frustration when they never showed the ending. Voltes V was a classic Japanese mecha anime they showed here in the Philippines in the 70s-80s and then cancelled before it ended because it was supposedly "too violent." An entire generation of young Filipinos grew up with the frustration. I grew up knowing the evil Prince Zardos was actually the missing half brother of the heroes Steve, Big Bert and Little John (those were the English versions of the names) and wondering if they all ever realized the truth. Thankfully, Voltes V was resurrected here in a true firestorm of Voltes V mania and we all finally got to see "the Liberation" (aka The Damn Kick Ass Ending). Whoo!!!!
7. Two words: M.C. Hammer Yep. I danced to Hammertime and watched the toons.
8. If you ever watched "Fraggle Rock." Oi, I loved the Fraggles. And I can still remember the theme song.
9. You loved the Transformers and G.I. Joe All right! All right! So I had a crush on Optimus Prime. And Grandpa, bless him, got me a Transformer of my very own, even if I was a girl. It was Thundercracker, my favorite Decepticion. My brother had the gay Autobot, the blue race car with the red face, what was his name again? Oh yeah, Tracks. And I yelled "YO JOE!" with my male sibling and my male cousins.
10. You can sing the entire theme song to "Duck Tales." Yep. It had a snappy tune. And I liked Unca Scrooge.
11. When it was actually worth getting up early on a Saturday to watch cartoons. I could once recite the schedules of the Saturday morning cartoons. I loved that Wildfire toon as well.
12. You wore a ponytail on the side of your head. We were supposed to have two. It was a law. Mom and Yaya (my Nanny) wouldn't hear anything different.
13. You saw the original "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" on the big screen. Saw 'em on video. Have a soft spot for the turtles, especially Leonardo and Michaelangelo. The craze was so much that my brother, who loved 'em just as much as I did, named his pet turtles Donatello and Leonardo. Leonardo died too early but Donnie lived to a ripe and content old age.
14. You wore Punky Brewster-style clothes. And the denim jacket. Mom thought Punky Brewster was the height of cool. Made me wear this pink confection of jeans, shirt, jacket and hat that had holes for my Punky ponytails. Obviously at the time, I was happy with it. Looking back now....*facepalms*
15. L.A. Gear Nope. Reeboks.
16. You remember reading "Tales of a fourth grade nothing" and all the Ramona books. The other Ramona books weren't available in my school library but "Fourth Grade Nothing" was what I was reading while the Sweet Valley craze was sweeping the campus. Also "How To Eat Fried Worms" - a classic. *giggle*
17. You know the profound meaning of "WAX ON, WAX OFF." Heh. I sang Glory of Love during a school show. Karate Kid....bwahahahahaha!
18. Indiana Jones Hell yeah, Indy is my man!
19. You ever wore fluorescent clothing. I think I had a neon cap and shirt and wallet as well.
20. You can remember what Michael Jackson looked like before his nose fell off. True. Hell, singing "Thriller" was a staple for my younger male cousins during parties. So was "La Bamba."
21. You have ever pondered why Smurfette was the only female smurf. True. I did. That is until that sick sick green Smurfette/The Entire Smurf Village orgy started circulating round email in the early days of the Internet. *facepalms*
22. You thought He-Man should hook up with Man-at-Arms. Um. No. I was to discover the joys of slash years later on the 'Net. But I did laugh at poor Skeletor when his "nicer side" was outed during one of those He-Man Christmas specials. And I did watch She-ra.
23. You thought your childhood friends would never leave because you exchanged friendship bracelets. I learned how to make the simpler version with ribbons but never got one from anybody. :( Sigh. I wasn't too cut up about it though. I just made 'em with neon-colored ribbons and thought they looked pretty.
24. You had or attended a birthday party at McDonald's. Yes. I also had an electone (big ol' electric keyboard) recital at one McD party.
25.. You've gone through this list occasionally saying "Totally awesome" *chortle* No. American slang took time to get here. And we had "Taglish" - English and Filipino mixed up - instead. The trick to speaking Taglish is with the right rich kid / colegiala (schoolgirl in a private school) accent. So it's more like...."oh my gosh, I remember this talaga! Grabe!"
26. You remember Popples. Hey, I have one and it still looks like new. It's pink. *grin* I love it.
27. "Don't worry, be happy" They overused this song in a commercial.
28. You remember boom boxes vs. CD players. Nah. I had my casette Walkman. Which someone (bastard!) stole. I got a new one when I finally started working.
29. You know what it meant to say "Care Bear Stare!" I had the Care Bears sticker album! And I adored the sleepy bear and Tenderheart, watched the Care Bear special toons and caught the series each afternoon on the TV.
30. You remember watching Rainbow Brite and My Little Pony Tales. I bugged my mom for a Rainbow Brite doll and bless her, she caved in. I loved my Rainbrow Brite plates and placemat and yes, adored the My Little Ponies as well. Hey, I had a soft spot for the cute stuff even then.
31. You thought David Bowie was hot. Thought he looked cool in Labyrinth but don't remember his music. My Phil Collins-loving uncle had a far more powerful influence.
32. You remember Alf, the lil furry brown alien from Melmac. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!! What? So I liked aliens.
33. You remember New Kids On The Block when they were cool. *cough* I liked Step by Step but that was about it for me. I saw their video and thought "ewwwwwww....they're not cute at all! And Jordan looks so gay!" and everyone else thought I was a freak. Came to high school and met a Certain Classmate who wrote about them and the Beatles. She loved the Beatles and had a slew of hilarious nicknames for the NKOTB boys which I thought were pretty apt. *grin* Yes, that was my first introduction to a person who wrote fan fiction. And at the time, I thought I was weird because I was the only one in my elementary school (I went to a different school after graduating from elementary) who wrote fan ficiton based on Star Wars. My first kindred spirit - you know who you are. *hugs*
34. You know all the words to Bon Jovi. Keep the Faith, folks. Keep the Faith. Heh.
35. You watched the Ewok Star Wars movies. Yes, damn it, I loved the Ewoks. Still love the Ewoks. Hell, they're a damn sight better than lame-ass Jar Jar Binks. At least the little teddy bears were useful in a battle! And I liked Cindel, that cute widdle girl in the Ewok movies. Even wrote a fanfic about her in my little Rainbow Brite notebook. *snerk*

Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg
Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes - it's a duck blur
You might solve a mystery or rewrite history
Duck Tales, Oo-oo
Tales of derring-do, bad and good luck tales, oo-oo
D-d-d-danger, watch behind you - there's a stranger out to find you
What to do? Just grab onto some Duck Tales, oo-oo!
Not pony tails or cotton tails but Duck Tales, oo-oo!
When it seems they're headed for the final curtain
Bold deduction never fails, that's for certain
The worst of messes become successes!
Duck Tales, Oo-oo
Tales of derring-do, bad and good luck tales, oo-oo
Not pony tails or cotton tails but Duck Tales, oo-oo!

No one better diss Fraggle Rock. Go and diss New Kids on the Block, they diss themselves.
