Well. It’s over. Bullets didn’t end up raining on my roof – thank God! The soldiers have surrendered. They are…as said in the news, undergoing tactical interrogation. .

(shudders) It’s as ominous as it sounds.

They’re starting the finger-pointing and the mud-slinging and yes, they’re conveniently targeting a bunch of politicians who have presidential ambitions. Like Gringo Honasan, who was coup ringleader years before. And the man’s now a Senator. Go figure.

Hell. Both Marcos’ kids are in politics – is my country schizophrenic or what?

I’m happy that it ended without bloodshed. Makati is back to normal, more or less. Glorietta Mall’s bustling again.

Understand that here in this country – the mall is like THE hangout for every Filipino from 0 – 98. Makati City is THE central business district for this country. Glorietta – that is, the Ayala Mall Complex, is the heart of the city. You can imagine the results of holding it up on a Sunday – one of the two days where you can guarantee that practically ALL of the Makati City residents will be in that particular mall. It’s only fortunate that the rebel soldiers were honorable enough not to involve civilians and took over in the early morning before the crowds came in.

I even see newborn infants being brought to the mall, like it’s some kind of park. And as for the senior residents? 98 is the age of my great-grandma, who wandered all over one of the major Supermalls pushing an empty wheelchair. My uncle brought the thing over in case she got tired of walking. But nooooo! Lola (that’s Tagalog for grandmother) went on like the Energizer bunny on speed – completely in seventh heaven. At the end of the day, my uncle wished he could sit in the wheelchair instead.

Heh. Never underestimate the female members of my family when it comes to shopping.

The repercussions from yesterday’s stunt are going to linger in our minds for a long time. We Pinoys are cynical about graft and corruption in the government – I’m sure most of us have listened to the allegations made by those soldiers and figured there’s probably more truth to it than most. But rebellion’s not the solution to this one. I can’t say that I have solutions to the situation myself – I’m just an ordinary Maria de la Cruz, trying to earn my daily bread, you know? But violence is not the key.

And as my buddy Ara Kane says, what happened yesterday didn’t help us any.
