Snarry Reccing....

darth_stitchIn honor of my first, official, serious LJ post, I pay tribute to the ladies who let me hang out at their LJs – lamardeuse and hp_femme (Femmeslash) and were kind enough to offer me codes for my very own. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!
I have to admit, seeing the term: HP/SS in some seriously TWISTED and badly written summaries over at fanfiction.net first sent me running away screaming in horror. Half of the things were chan – which squicks the hell out of me. Hell, I live in a country where every other tabloid headline screams the rape/molesting of kids young as three or two years old, usually by their s.o.b. fathers.
But that’s a subject for a rant another day. And I’m in too good a mood to rant right now.
So anyways, I stumbled on Telanu. And Tea. Which disturbed and haunted me for days because it was so damn well written. It was creepily and scarily plausible. And well…I was shanghaied and dragged, kicking and screaming aboard the Pirate Ship that is Harry/Snape. There was JayKay. And Sushi. Cybele. Minx. And of course, Midnight Blue.
After that, I suddenly realized I was fast running out of good fics to read. Oh, horrors! Either the fics were finished or they were still off in WIP-land and not likely to be updated for a long while yet.
But I guess I’m just lucky…because I stumbled onto lamardeuse and femme, two new voices in the Snarry Ship. Ahoy, mates!
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme

This is not a premise I'd normally go for: Harry gets an STD,
Severus brews the cure. But trust me, Femme shanghais you into her
fic, kicking and screaming and you won't want to leave. It's a
wonderful mix of humor and angst, a gorgeous post-Ootp read. I
absolutely love Tonks in this fic - Femme loves the character and it
shows. Remus is sweetly poignant. The Weasleys plus Hermione (who
is, in Gred's own words, practically a Weasley) are all at their
best - especially Ron. What I deplore about some truly bad Snarry
fics is how Ron gets demonized. As in "my best friend's a sodding
poof and shagging our greasy git of a professor - he's disgusting so
I'll drop him like a hot potato." Riiiight. Sorry - Ron may act
like an utter prat at times but he is still Harry's best friend and
it's sad to see that relationship destroyed in a badfic. In this
fic, (thank God!) Femme handles Ron's reactions beautifully - she has
him pegged right down to the last little red hair and freckle. And
her take on Molly Weasley is priceless, priceless, priceless.
And the Snarry dynamic is...hot. Phew! (fans self) Half the fun of a
good Snarry fic is when we're shown that despite the age diff, Harry
can match Snape snark for snark. He is, as he admits in this story,
just as much a bastard as Snape is - he's just better at hiding it.
Heh. The snarkfests between these two had me chortling for ages
afterward and I had a time keeping myself from falling off my seat
laughing my ass off. And Femme's take on Snape's past and
motivations rings very true - it could happen, it's plausible and it
works.

A Taste of Liberty (WIP)

The premise: Before the war, Harry runs away and learns about
another world. As it now contradicts OotP events, I guess this is
pretty much AU territory.
This is actually a crossover with the show Queer as Folk but never
fear. You don't need to know beans about Queer as Folk to appreciate
this fic. In fact, I didn't know ANYTHING about QaF when I started
reading but I soon fell in love with the characters anyway.
Lamardeuse does a skillfull crossover fic and her love for the
crossover characters definitely shows - you'll fall in love with them
as well.
This is more Snarry-centered than anything else and it's just
absolutely breathtaking. Romantic, sweet, angsty and funny (with a
side order of action/intrigue) - I went back to read the thing over
and over again while going "AAAARGH!" at the fact that it's still a
WIP. Harry here is the mature young man that I've envisioned him to
be and again, he's very much Snape's match personality-wise, despite
the age difference. Snape here is just...heart-wrenching. Snarky as
ever with this quiet desperate and utterly lonely undercurrent that
makes you want to weep. Ow.
Again - run off and read.
