Ever read one of those fics that's not exactly good but for some godsknowwhat reason, you like it anyway?

*wibbles* I swear to God, some badfics are like junk food. You know they're bad for you but you still keep on reading anyway. Especially when you find them on ff.net.

Found this fic there. The premise is worth a "WTF?!" - something I'd normally avoid. Essentially, it's one of those gender-switching Harry stories. Set in Harry's sixth (seventh?) year, we have Neville going completely FUBAR in the Potions lab (as usual) and the botched-up potion turns Harry into a girl.

So now, our Heroine is so conveniently moved down to the dungeons where she can research her cure with Professor Snape. Incidentally, Harry is gay and her switch in genders doesn't help the fact that she's developing a crush on the Potions Master.

I must commend the author for not making the ghastly mistake of assuming that just because Harry is gay, he'd rather be female, rather than male. He doesn't like being a girl - this is NOT the body he was born with - but he's adjusting. With hilarious results.

The author's read a bit of Ranma 1/2 and her Harry is leaning somewhat in that direction. There are some anime girls, like Ranma 1/2's Akane Tendo, who have this thing about perverts - they go ballistic. Harry has something of this tendency - again, with hilarious, although somewhat OOC results. I dunno, this Harry's not JKR's Harry, though for some odd reason, I like him. Her. Whatever.

The author's Snape is still snarky as hell but there's this weird-ass bishounen (pretty boy) / dark intriguing hero element to his portrayal that makes me think of all the anime/manga-inspired Severus Snape fan art out there. And yeah, I like him too. *groans*

The writing is rough in spots but tolerable. There's a sense of "tongue-in-cheek" to the whole thing that if she ever gets a beta, the fic can actually work. In a weird OOC kind of way. It's not JKR's Harry Potter. It's not a masterpiece like Telanu's Tea Series or Sushi's CW-verse. It's definitely a fan fic of the Twilight Zone AU variety. But it's entertaining.

*facepalms* God help me, but I actually LIKE this story, rough spots, anime-OOC-ness, WTF-premise and all. AIEEEEEE!!!!!!!

That's it - I think I'm going into serious Snarry withdrawal here. And the current romantic situations at hp_dungeons doesn't help any. (I know, I know - I'm happy for Draco but still....damn it, I'm a SNARRY fan!)

I don't know what to call it. I avoided putting the link because I'm not exactly reccing it. *facepalms* I don't know...I'm just tripping (there is no other word for it) on this particular story.

It's perfectly ok to find fics to wallow in - or simply to enjoy on their quirky merits (you enjoyed Stars, ne? LOL). I love Ranma 1/2!! I'm halfway through chapter 2 of Lions, although I can't call that a Snarry by any means (Eregion would slay me.)

I have to say that "Stars" is leagues, nay, galaxies away from this weird-ass fic I found. "Stars" and the sequels are works of art. And this ain't flattery, hon. Heh.

In the meantime, I have been bit and bit hard by a Snarry Plotbunny. I am doomed.
