I have seen S.W.A.T.

Apparently, there was a S.W.A.T. TV show floating around once upon a time. The movie may or may not be based on the show - probably not as it features the S.W.A.T. characters watching that ol' TV show and humming its distinctive theme. The theme is vaguely familiar to me.

But that is not the point. The point being, is that I love this movie. Heh. So okay - I'm an action movie junkie. Loved the Lethal Weapon flicks, the Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay movies (Top Gun, Con Air, The Rock, Pearl Harbor), superhero flicks (Daredevil, Batman, Superman), kung fu flicks - Hong Kong and others (Jet Li, Jacky Chan, Chow Yun Fat) and the staples: Sly Stallone and the Terminator - Ahnuld, himself.

Of course I know there's no deep significant human experience and insight in these films. I don't bloody care. I can watch Oscar-worthy critically acclaimed flicks; I also watch Hollywood junk food. I'm just not a very big movie snob. If I can sit in a nice, clean, comfortable movie theater and enjoy a flick, regardless of whether it's the future Oscar Best Picture or just another enjoyable action-adventure flick - my day is made.

So, I like SWAT. Watched it with my brother The Eggling and his buddy, The Wizard. The Eggling and The Wizard are both martial artists and are deeply interested in fighting techniques, tactics and military stuff. Watching movies with either of them is an enjoyable and educational experience. We laugh over the obvious Hollywood mistakes and oooh with appreciation if certain actors did their homework and really kick serious ass. Our last educational movie experience was Black Hawk Down - I ended up buying the book at Booksale and it was promptly snitched by The Eggling, who explained some of the book's finer, more macho points to me.

Watching SWAT in their company brought out my inner guy - I snickered at the guy jokes with the two of 'em. It is a kick-ass movie - simple but exciting plot, characterizations that don't make me roll my eyes in exasperation, Samuel Jackson (who is the GOD of asskicking) and my newest honey, Colin Farrell. That boy is adorable. Michelle Rodriguez does a fine, though somewhat underused role as the SWAT team's only "lady." My brother pointed out that her kicks were in fine form.

And I wouldn't mind watching sequels of this movie with the same cast in place. It's just plain popcorn fun. Ladies, watch this with the brother or the boyfriend and let your inner guy run loose, it's worth it. And sighing over Colin Farrell is allowed - siiiigh.

On to the Snarry rec. Found this (yet again) on ff.net. It's getting harder and harder to look for decent Snarry fics (thank god for [livejournal.com profile] tiranog and Hanakai who were the last people to feed my addiction for new fic). Of course, there are always the lovely, lovely WIPs (Stitch happily blows a kiss to [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse) but it's nice to hunt for new fic while waiting for them to update. *hint!hint!* *grin*

A Bit of All Right by I Got Tired of Waiting is a nice Snarry fix. In the author's own words, it's a romance about honesty and trust in five parts.

The writing is somewhat uneven in places and I had a WTF?! reaction to the hints of a very abusive and squicky Harry/Draco past pairing. But the Snarry is wonderful - funny, achingly sweet, angsty, fluffy and hot all at the same time. And the challenges between a pairing with such an age gap are taken on rather well and with both angsty AND hilarious results. "The Book" had me snickering for a few minutes - read the fic to find out all about it.

IGOTW's Harry still has a lot of growing up to do but he's determined to face his Severus as an equal and not as a dependent "child." Severus is still our TWHAP!able Potions Master, insecurities and all but the obvious love and affection he quietly bears for Harry makes you want to drag him off for a comforting cuddle.

IGOTW's supporting cast is surprisingly funny - the Dumbledore here's not a patient, all-wise saint by any means. He's got a temper and he gets to twhap both Snape AND HArry into sense. Madam Pomfrey also gets some spotlight here as well as some funny moments with Tonks, Remus and Mad-Eye Moody.

A Bit of All Right is currently being posted in parts on ff.net. You can check that out here or you can hop on over to her webpage at
http://www.turn-of-the-page.com for the COMPLETE and FINISHED story. The webpage is password protected, however but there are instructions on how to get the password (the usual stuff - age and things) and it's worth it to get to the fic.

Recs and The J.A.P. Arc--Thanks

Mmmmmm . . . now I'm considering actually reading that . . . ^_^;;; This is Hanakai, btw. Vain is my primary pen name. I just wanted to thank you for all the reviews and for recommending me on your LJ. Plus, I wanted to hunt you down so I could stick you on my "Friends" list. That's pretty much it. Thanks again!
