real life news
Jul. 1st, 2005 09:21 pmDaddy, who I will now officially refer to with much affection as my Chicken, is now in the hospital. Grandfather Alien, who's a retired medical doctor, declared that Daddy should go to the hospital for at least a night to get some dextrose in him because he was badly dehydrated after his surgical biopsy. Daddy Chicken, being stubborn as usual and also because he proclaims that once he gets into a hospital, he'll not come home at all (AUGH! DAAAAD!!), didn't want to go. But Grandfather Alien and the rest of us were adamant.
We admitted him none too soon as he was, to our alarm, getting weaker. That was yesterday. It turned out he was much too low on blood, requiring a transfusion. Thus my brother and I made a frantic search for blood donors (I was out of the running - I've been a bit poorly myself). Amazingly, three of my officemates, all of them guys who I don't know very well and aren't even in my department, volunteered. There is no one word that can begin to express my gratitude. Thank you, thank you thank you.
Yesterday was a day of tears, inadvertent laughter (Daddy experienced his very first trip on medication), Daddy Chicken on a drama queen roll, me trying to schnoogle him and Mommy Duck both to keep them sane and calm, and quiet determination to get through things.
Please God, I'd like my beloved Daddy Chicken to get through this fine, to have many more years of chickenhood, driving me batty, wanting gay grandchildren, proclaiming his real identity as a real live alien from another planet, bad jokes and all.
