Gacked this from
hellcatjelybean. Heh.
As I have a hideously busy week ahead of me, needing to proofread several souvenir programs, two posters, a billboard and prepare several promotional letters and emails, this seems appropriate. Plus, I am currently in THE COSTUME - my favorite all black get-up with the looong swooshy black skirt that makes me look like either
a: a character from Highlander or some other sword-n'-sorcery fantasy thing
or
b: Professor Snape's younger sister and no, I'm not talking about a misbegotten Mary Sue in a bad Snapefic. That was what the Princess Brat said when she saw me in the get-up for the first time. Sort of. Heh.
Hey, I work in a theater, the dramatic flair rubs off after a while.
Plus, I like Michael Moorcock and doing the Elric of Melnibone thing on my workload seems very appropriate. Have at thee! *swings pens like a certain soul-sucking black sword*
EDITED TO ADD: This is also disturbingly appropriate as I playfully refer to my boss as the "Dark Lord" (among other nicknames, which include: Captain of the Nazgul). Yes, the Boss knows what I call him. And yes, he is amused by it. Heheh.
Ah yes, for those unfamiliar with Mr. Moorcock's work (his books have not appeared on National Bookstore shelves in years): this is high fantasy stuff and a hell of a read. I haven't read the inital Elric saga but I have read his other adventures in both anthologies and a pair of separate paperbacks that I was lucky to scrounge up. Elric is a tall, brooding albino - prince of a lost kingdom, generally kicking ass with his soul-sucking bastard of a black sword called "Stormbringer." Being the Eternal Champion, Elric's incarnated in other Moorcock heroes such as Von Bek. Von Bek was the first Moorcock character that I met in "The Warhound and the Cure for the World's Pain." Have a soft spot for 'Bek ever since.
Since I seem to be in a sword n' sorcery mood, here's a Highlander rec - click on the lj cut thingy below to get to The Other Snarky Bastard that I Adore - Methos.
After Connor Macleod, my favorite Highlander character has got to be Methos. Yes, I like the "other" Highlander too but Connor takes first place in my heart.
Yes, I deny the ending of Highlander: Endgame.
And Methos? Er, consider my adopted "children" - Spike, Alucard, D, Kenshin and even, god help me, Snape - snarky bastards all. I have a soft spot for 'em. Sue me.
Anyways, Armed Intervention by the Snow Leopard is a damn good, kick-ass tale that happens to be one of the very, very rare jewels on fanfiction.net. Methos has a lot of secrets and adventures in his past. One of them comes back to bite him in the ass - one more time. And no, I'm not talking about his stint as Death of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
I shall give you a hint. Think: Gladiator. *cackles evilly*
Methos here is the compelling, ageless and yet all-too human Immortal that we've all grown to know and love. And he's ably supported by a fabulously-written Joe Dawson. In fact, the whole story reads like the first episode of a real, live Methos n' Joe Highlander spin-off TV show.
The best part is, "Armed Intervention" is only the beginning.
Although I found it on ff.net - here's a better link to the tale (and its sequels). Run and read now!
