Some of Harry's Professors....
Jan. 7th, 2005 06:14 pmAll right. Anyone's been following the insanity over at
invisiblesnitch will know that Harry's named some of his professors. Yes, if you think that I'm pulling in that guy from THAT fandom, you're correct!
So here are some of Harry's professors. Shhh. No one tell Severus that Harry has considered them attractive. :P
I found these pictures in my old files and for the life of me, I don't know where they originally came from. I think these pics are fairly common enough for general use - I see them all over the place so it's unlikely they're "exclusive" to any particular site. :D
- Dr. Adam Pierson or "Dr. P"

Professor "Will Turner" is EXACTLY who you think he is.
and of course Spike.

HEEEEEE.
Mad, who me? Naturally! :P
ETA: I forgot KENSHIN!!! ARGH. He teaches the "Eastern" side of sword disciplines. :P
- Kenshin Himura, de gozaru yo! :P

Date: 2005-01-07 10:34 am (UTC)Damnit! Do you suppose Harry would mind if I started following him to all his classes?
Well, all the ones with hot teachers at least! *g*

About a Magical Oxford...
Date: 2005-01-07 12:30 pm (UTC)Also, I would imagine that even a magical university would have a few core requirements for graduation, like in a muggle university. It would be cool if Harry had a minor, and maybe learned some things about foreign magical disciplines, for example. Eastern magic must be very different from Western magic, after all, not to mention all the Native American shaman types, or even Voudoun. I'll bet if you called for suggestions, both for possible courses and teachers, you'd be inundated.
So, anyway, I hope I haven't taken this too seriously, but I couldn't resist putting my two cents in. Good luck in your writing, as it never fails to brighten my day.

Re: About a Magical Oxford...
Date: 2005-01-07 01:06 pm (UTC)Good point on the other esoteric subjects on the occult. Considering Harry's "mentor," yes, he would be studying Eastern and Western magical disciplines. Not to mention stuff like Demonology, Necromancy....well, I might steer clear of the REALLY esoteric stuff. I mean, in a Potterverse where Care of Magical Creatures is taught, do I really need to have Harry spork his eyes out over the Necronomicon? :P
I'm playing fast and loose on things like "majors" and "minors" - actually. Hee. I'm trying to blend a "university-like" feel to this with the way sorcerers' apprentices are taught in many fantasy books by authors like Mercedes Lackey, C.J. Cherryh, Tad Williams, Jennifer Roberson etc. XD
Yes, I've got a library of sci-fi and fantasy books to draw on, but I really need a refresher course on my subjects. Heee. I welcome your suggestions. Do you have Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN, an email address? You can email me at darth_stitch @ yahoo.com!
Thank you and I'm glad you're enjoying this crazy multiverse I'm playing in!
Do join in the fun over there, even as an anonymous poster. Just make sure you identify yourself lest we think you're Dr. P! Or someone else in Harry's world. :D

Date: 2005-01-09 06:36 pm (UTC)First, I think any DADA major would be required to take a course on the history and philosophy and psychology of the Dark Arts and their users, from Voldy and his Death Munchers to Grindelwald and so on. A sort of "know thy enemy" thing.
MAybe a course on Ritual Magic, because although canon states that Voldy underwent many dark rituals while seeking immortality, I can't imagine that all rituals are Dark, and it must be a fairly powerful branch of advanced magic.
Another possibility is geomancy, which, as I understand it, is the art of drawing magical power from the Earth and/or the surrounding environment, rather like the whole ley-lines and nodes system in the Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey. Who knows how that would mesh with the established HP magic system, though.
Then there's elemental magic, which could be adapted to most any storyline. I somehow imagine Eastern magic having elemental and spiritual connections, but that could be just me. I could see this being taught by Zelgadis of the anime Slayers.
Although the British magical community is far too involved with separation from muggles and pureblood superiority to create such a branch (even Ron, who has nothing against muggles, can't imagine that they could create anything that equals or surpasses magic), I think American or Japanese wizards could easily have created a new branch of magic called Technomagic, melding magic and technology. This would have to be taught by Washu of the anime Tenchi Muyo, which would be torturing Harry on a whole new level.
Eastern magical disciplines could be taught by either Genkai of the anime Yuu Yuu Hakusho, or by Li Syaoran of the anime Card Captor Sakura. What this would include would be up to you.
There could be classes on the cultures of other sentient magical species, like your Vampires101, but of Veelas, and goblins, and giants, etc, either combined or individually.
There could be Demonology in the sense of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or the anime Inuyasha as opposed to the Necronomicon, where he learns that Polgaran demons have spikes, that Brachen demons are not necessarily evil, and that the way to kill a fear demon is to step on it, as it's only 4 inches tall. This could be another class taught by Spike, possibly for later years? I can just see the Watchers Council under the aegis of Quentin Travers sending an observer, which Spike makes a fool of.
Well, that's all I can think of at the moment. Feel free to reply here or at my email: yllyana18 @ cs.com Thanks for letting me participate in this incredibly cool universe you've got going on here!

Re: About a Magical Oxford...
Date: 2005-01-10 10:39 am (UTC)As for icons, I made the stitch ones on my own - a little trimming on Photoshop and voila! I did get some of my stitch pictures through friends. And there's a lot of people out there who make icons and give them away. Just poke around and make sure you ask permission before you use them. They'll usually say yes.
I've already done a rough course outline for Harry, which I'll adjust as I go along. But I definitely included a History of the Dark Arts subject for him. Dr. Pierson is teaching this. Ritual Magic is another good idea. Geomancy too - the magic system in HP IS different but I already had a vague idea for Harry to need to learn how to tap power from outside sources...whoops. Forget I said that. I'm plotting. :P
As for the rest, thanks for your suggestions and I'll definitely take these into consideration. I'm familiar with the anime names you threw at me but I haven't watched enough of those animes to get a "feel" for them. Except for Yuu Yuu Hakusho, which I definitely saw from beginning to end. Hee. I don't know about including any more anime characters other than Kenshin though. The other fandoms ALONE will keep me busy. I'll have to think about it. Maybe as brief cameos in amusing encounters or something...
