There's been a lot of Srsly Whack RL things that has happened to me last week but that requires a little more careful thought and time than I have at the present. And I will write about those, because they're memories that are both good and bad and deserve to be recorded.

However, in the meantime.... I'd like a little escapism from the Occasional Craptasticness of my Real Life and write about this for the moment...

This grew out of a chat with my BFF Katz, who pointed out that I was neglecting my H50 Muses.... 'Cos I said, that Steve and John were Besties (oh gawd, I hope they were just BESTIES) and realized, SOMEBODY of the Tall, Pale and Insufferably Snarky Persuasion was gonna get all hissy-fitted up about it!

"Well, it isn't me," Danny huffs. "Any idiot can tell that Super-SEAL here and Doctor Who are BFFs from the Classified Way Back When. And I like him."

"Danny," Steve said with an evil grin. "I ever told you John's got sniper-class shooting skills? When I said he saved my ass back in the 'Stan, it wasn't because of his doctoring skills."

Danny facepalms. "Oh God. Here we go..."

John is still reeling from the new nickname. "Doctor...Who?"

Danny blushes. "Yeah. I got hooked into it. My daughter loves that show."

"Man and here I was hoping we'd get a threesome," Kono said with an entirely too wicked-glint in her eyes.

Chin splutters. " 'Cuz!"

"Aw, come on, 'cuz, a girl can dream, can't she?"

John deadpans, "It'd serve that sodding git right, not that he'd see through us all in 30 seconds...."

"Could Lola Tasya Possibly be the Grand Duchess Anastasia?"

Found this article over at the Philippine Daily Inquirer online website.

It makes for interesting reading. This writer's recollections of her lost grandmother almost sound like a novel and my imagination is caught, providing, of course, that this isn't just the best con job of all time. And we all know it's been tried before.

Still, there is something sweet and sad about "Lola Tasya" - her memories of her four sisters and younger brother, the little details she gave away growing up in what definitely points to an aristocratic and privileged upbringing. And it's fantastic that it coincidentally resembles what we know of the life of Anastasia Romanov.

We all know that the story of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and whether or not she survived the massacre of her family by the Bolsheviks is a topic that has been hotly debated for decades. We have had one "conclusive DNA test" after another. Still, the questions this article raises are interesting, whether or not "Lola Tasya" is the Grand Duchess.

Who was Lola Tasya? What happened to her Russian family? Answering that alone could be a book in itself. :)

A Little Bit of Summer in Winter - My Picture of Zen

So I finally manage to go to the beach this year.

One of my cousins came in from Germany, fleeing the winter there for the relative warmth of his native land. And he decided to drag the majority of Clan Duck to the Beach - which we all accepted with delight. Anilao Beach in Batangas province is known for its dive spots but it's also one of our easier-to-access white sand beaches. It's a godsend especially for people who can't afford the pricey tickets to Boracay or Palawan - great tourist spots yes, but you'd have to board a plane from Manila to get to the provinces they're located in.

The above pic is a shot I lucked into. I stare at it long enough and I feel like I'm back on that beach again, with just the right amount of warm and cold, the sun not too blazing hot, the ocean breeze cool and sweet. :)

So my cousin is getting married and she is the first person in our side of the family and in my generation to get married.

Thus, this precipitates a LOT of discussion between Mommy Duck and my paternal grandmother, Grandma Alien, because of course, I am the eldest cousin of my generation and also, the first born girl. And incidentally, still boyfriend-less and happy to stay that way.
